ABOUT THIS ARCHIVE

Note - For now, this website should be considered a "work in progress"! The basic functions are in place, and any information/photos uploaded to it will be preserved, but there may be bugs in the code (and new ones may pop up if I'm trying to improve the site). If you have problems using the site, please let me know via email at support@nanasphotos.com, and try again in another day or two to see if I've fixed it!

This archive was created by Ken Drum while I was wondering what to do with the books, boxes, folders and footlockers full of photos Mom and Dad had accumulated.

Just scanning them onto a computer or thumb drive felt wrong, as computers and thumb drives may be lost/stolen/corrupted. There also might be other people interested in having access to the photos.

So I started thinking about how to archive photos that would:

This sounded like a website, but I wasn't aware of any commercial sites that did exactly what I was thinking of (and I'm not sure I would trust them anyways). So I tried working up a website of my own.

You are looking at the result of that effort, which I hope will cover the goals listed above.

Feel free to browse archived photos and upload new photos anytime. When uploading, please remember that this isn't facebook, and it doesn't have access to huge server farms - so the photos should be worth archiving. Think of uploading pictures like family gatherings or notable events, but please don't upload scenic photos from your last vacation. When you upload a photo, you will be asked to identify at least one person in the photo.

This site is being hosted on a commercial server, and I will have backups made periodically so any photos posted should not be lost if something happens to that commercial entity. I will send out emails to registered email addresses if any site-wide issues arise.

For now, please don't consider this website as a "primary" method of preserving photo images - keep the originals for anything you upload. If the website turns out to be a good idea it could likely be kept going indefinitely, but that decision has not been made yet (The site will be up for at least three years though).

As a final note, I don't have any security processes set up for access to this site, so don't post any photos that you don't want the whole world to see. In particular, they should not show any personal information (addresses, phone numbers, etc...)

One last final note - if you have any comments or suggestions for this website, please let me know by sending an email to support@nanasphotos.com

Thanks! I hope you enjoy using the site.
